Types of Braces

Self-Ligating Braces - Silver or Porcelain

self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces are made from similar materials as traditional braces however, self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics to hold the brace and wire together.  This means less friction between the brace and wire - which means less force can be used to move teeth.  The less force we plaec on teeth means less soreness to the patient and is a healthier way to move teeth. The Damon brand self-ligating braces used at Capitol Orthodontics are made with either surgical grade stainless steel or clear porcelain. The Damon braces use a specialized clip in place of colored elastics to help the tooth slide along the archwire guiding it into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.

Clear Aligners or Invisalign

Clear aligners are a series of clear, removable, and comfortable plastic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners discreet, they are removable, so you can remove them to eat and drink whatever you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle compated to braes. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.  Compliance is critical with clear aligners as they must be worn 22 hours per day every day to achieve the same result as braces.
